How to check SMPS

The SMPS (Switched-Mode Power Supply) is an important component of your computer that provides
power to all its internal components. If your computer is not turning on or experiencing power-related
issues, it is possible that the SMPS may be faulty. In this blog post, we will discuss how to check your
computer's SMPS. Check the Power Supply Unit- The first step to check your computer's SMPS is to examine the power supply unit (PSU).
The PSU is the component that connects to the power cord and provides power to the SMPS.
Check if the PSU is connected properly and if the power cord is plugged in correctly.
If the PSU is not working properly, you can replace it with a new one. Use a Multimeter A multimeter is a tool used to measure electrical current, voltage, and resistance.
You can use a multimeter to check if the SMPS is providing the correct voltage output.
Here are the steps to use a multimeter: *Turn off your computer and unplug it from the power source. *Open the case of your computer and locate the SMPS. *Set the multimeter to measure DC voltage. *Connect the black probe of the multimeter to a ground point on the motherboard, such as a metal
screw or a metal part of the case. *Connect the red probe of the multimeter to the 12V or 5V output of the SMPS. You can find the
voltage values printed on the side of the SMPS. *Turn on your computer and check if the multimeter displays the correct voltage output.
The voltage values should be within a range of +/- 5% of the rated voltage. *If the voltage values are not within the acceptable range, it may indicate that the SMPS is faulty and
needs to be replaced. Check for Physical Damage You can also check the SMPS for any physical damage such as burnt components, swollen
capacitors, or damaged wires. These can indicate that the SMPS is faulty and needs to be replaced. In conclusion, checking your computer's SMPS is a crucial step in troubleshooting power-related
issues. You can check the PSU, use a multimeter to measure the voltage output, and inspect the
SMPS for physical damage. If you are unsure about checking the SMPS yourself, it is best to seek
help from a professional technician to avoid causing further damage to your computer.
